Cactuscape:
Cactus Bonsai Dish Gardens
Cactuscape cactus bonsai are inspired by the majestic stands of Saguaro cactus which grow across the Sonora desert (Arizona – USA and Sonora – Mexico). These plantings are based on the principles of Bonsai group plantings (or more specifically Penjing).
As Bonsai simulates weathered old trees in a miniaturize form, Cactuscape simulates the ancient Saguaro in the desert southwest.
In order to simulate the giant Saguaro cacti in our Cactuscape plantings, we use Acanthocerus Tetragonus (Fairy Castle), which are grown and shaped specifically for this purpose.

History of Cactuscape:
As bonsai enthusiasts we notice those qualities in many landscapes. Several trips to Arizona stimulated our interest in the mighty Saguaro and in creating miniature versions by applying the principles of bonsai to cactus. However, the Saguaro itself cannot be miniaturized so the hunt was on for another species that might be made to pass for a miniaturized version. Many species of cactus were examined and tried, and we could only find one that was suitable (Fairy Castle). Among it’s various benefits an important positive feature is small soft spines, allowing the cactus to be handled without gloves. We have been working with and shaping these cactus for over ten years, and are pleased to offer them to you.
Another benefit of Fairy Castle is the ease of propagation. The arms and buds can be easily rooted to create more cactus, thereby expanding your collection. To propagate, simply pluck off an arm or large bud, let it dry for several days, and then plant it back into the same pot as the parent plant. Within a month or two it will start developing it’s own roots, and will become a new cactus.
